John DeMairo

segaladvisors-leadership-172John DeMairo joined Segal Advisors in 1989 and has over 20 years of investment consulting experience. Mr. DeMairo was appointed national practice leader and chief operating officer of Segal Advisors, Inc., the investment consulting affiliate of The Segal Company, in 1998.

In addition to his management responsibilities, he serves as lead consultant to several major multiemployer, public and corporate plan sponsor clients of Segal Advisors.  In his role as investment consultant, he provides expertise in the development of investment strategies, the selection of investment managers and the measurement and evaluation of investment performance.  Mr. DeMairo provides consulting services and expertise to defined benefit, defined contribution and other types of investment programs.

Mr. DeMairo is a magna cum laude graduate of St. John's University, where he received a BS in quantitative analysis in 1985 and an MBA in Finance in 1988.


Robert A. Liberto

Mr. Liberto joined The Segal Company's New York office in 1988 as director of the defined contribution services department and was promoted to Senior Vice President in 2006. Mr. Liberto is practice leader for DC-Connect®, a comprehensive defined contribution search and vendor selection service, which he developed.

Prior to joining The Segal Company, Mr. Liberto was vice president of a major commercial bank's defined contribution services division.  He has over 25 years of experience in the employee benefits field. As a nationally known expert on defined contribution plan design and technical administration issues, Mr. Liberto has written numerous articles on defined contribution plan issues and has been quoted in national news, business and trade publications.  In addition, he frequently speaks at employee benefit seminars.


Lawrence Marino, CFA

Mr. Marino joined Segal Advisors in 1994 and became a senior vice president in 1997.  In addition to overseeing Segal Advisors' Boston office, he serves as lead consultant to several major multiemployer and public plan sponsor clients.  In his role as investment consultant, he provides expertise in the development of investment strategies, the selection of investment managers and the measurement and evaluation of investment performance.

Prior to joining Segal Advisors, Mr. Marino was an asset management consultant with a well-known brokerage firm.  He was the comptroller for the City of Newton and a member of the Newton Retirement Board for 18 years, the last four of which he was chairman.

Mr. Marino graduated from Boston College and received his MBA from Boston University. He is a Vietnam veteran.


Richard Ranallo, CFA

Mr. Ranallo joined Segal Advisors' in 1995. In addition to overseeing Segal Advisors' Cleveland office, he serves as lead consultant to several major multiemployer and public plan sponsor clients.  In his role as investment consultant, he provides expertise in the development of investment strategies, the selection of investment managers and the measurement and evaluation of investment performance.

Mr. Ranallo has over 20 years of experience covering a broad range of investment consulting functions including financial modeling, asset allocation analysis investment policy development and performance measurement.  He has written on investment consulting for Pension Management magazine, and has spoken in various public forums on investment related issues.  His client base includes multi-employer, corporate and public retirement plans. Finally, Mr. Ranallo also has over 10 years of experience consulting to various VEBA Plans.

Mr. Ranallo received an MBA in Finance from the University of Pittsburgh and a BS in Business Administration from Robert Morris University (Pittsburgh, PA).  He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation, is a member of the Financial Analysts Federation, the CFA Institute (formerly AIMR), the CFA Society of Cleveland and the Pittsburgh Society of Financial Analysts.

Mr. Ranallo also serves as a Trustee on the Lupus Foundation of America, Inc. Board of Trustees (Cleveland Chapter).

Seth Almaliah, CFA
Vice President and Consultant

Mr. Almaliah joined Segal Advisors' New York office in 1999 and was promoted to Vice President in 2006. He has over seven years of investment consulting experience working with both defined benefit and defined contribution plans, and he serves as lead consultant to many multiemployer and public funds.  He also serves as a member of Segal Advisor's Asset Allocation Committee.

Mr. Almaliah provides investment manger due diligence, asset allocation and asset-liability modeling services to his clients. In addition, he has assisted clients on various technical projects.

Prior to joining Segal Advisors, Mr. Almaliah was employed at CIBC Oppenheimer, where he processed and reconciled trades for listed stocks and municipal bonds in the purchase and sales department. He graduated from Hofstra University with a BS in Industrial Engineering.


Frank Carofano
Vice President, Director of Investment Operations and Technology/Consultant

Mr. Carofano joined Segal Advisors New York office in 2003 as a relationship manager.  In 2007, he was promoted to Director of Investment Operations and Technology.  In addition to managing client relationships, and overseeing the preparation of performance evaluation reports, manager search and asset allocation studies, Mr. Carofano is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating the activities of operations to ensure that goals and objectives of the company are accomplished. Mr. Carofano will also formulate and recommend policies and programs, which guide the organization in maintaining and improving its competitive position and profitability.

Prior to joining Segal Advisors, Mr. Carofano was employed at Mellon Financial where he consulted with Senior Management of publicly traded companies on various topics ranging from equity market trends to corporate governance issues.  Prior to Mellon, Mr. Carofano was a buy-side research associate at the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation.

Mr. Carofano is a graduate of Hofstra University with a BBA in finance. He also holds a a master's degree in computer information systems (MSCIS) from Boston University.


Rafik Ghazarian
Vice President and Consultant

Mr. Ghazarian joined Segal Advisors' Boston office in 1996 and was promoted to Vice President & Consultant in 2008. He works directly with clients in developing investment policy guidelines and objectives, performing asset allocation and portfolio optimization analysis, assisting clients in selection of money managers and providers of master trust or custodial services, and evaluating investment performance.

Prior to joining Segal Advisors, Mr. Ghazarian was a project manager for a major design firm. He graduated from the University of Massachusetts with a BS in Mathematics and Computer Science and received an MS in Finance from Boston College, Carroll Graduate School of Management.


Brett Hazen
Vice President and Consultant

Mr. Hazen joined Segal Advisors' Cleveland office in 2006 as a Vice President and Consultant.  His primary responsibilities include business development and client servicing.

Mr. Hazen has 18 years of investment experience, primarily in working with public sector defined benefit plans.  Before joining Segal Advisors, Mr. Hazen spent six years as a principal and managing consultant at Portfolio Analytics, where he was responsible for managing the consulting operation, servicing clients and business development.  Prior to that, he spent a combined eight years at two large financial service firms where he was involved with providing consulting services to institutional clients, manager research and marketing.

Mr. Hazen earned a Bachelors degree in business administration from Northwood University and a Masters degree from the University of Detroit-Mercy.


George Kiriakos
Vice President and Consultant

Mr. Kiriakos began his career with Segal Advisors in 1987. He has 21 years of practical experience in assisting clients in the development and implementation of successful investment programs.  He serves as lead consultant to several multiemployer, public and corporate plan sponsor clients in the U.S and Canada.  His areas of expertise include global economics, asset allocation modeling techniques, manager selection and performance evaluation.  Mr. Kiriakos also assists clients in developing investment programs for participant directed accounts. He serves as the head of the firm's asset allocation committee and a member of the ALM team.

Mr. Kiriakos is a magna cum laude graduate and holds a BS degree from Long Island University, where he majored in accounting and economics/finance.


Frank Picarelli
Vice President and Senior Consultant

Mr. Picarelli joined The Segal Company in 1994 as director of the defined contribution services department, responsible for all aspects of defined contribution plan administration.  In 1998, Mr. Picarelli became a senior consultant with Segal Advisors, and in 2005, he was promoted to vice president.  Mr. Picarelli specializes in providing defined contribution plan consulting services and vendor evaluation/selection services to a diverse client base.

Prior to joining The Segal Company, Mr. Picarelli managed the installation/administration unit for a major financial institution, providing daily participant recordkeeping and investment management services.

Mr. Picarelli has more than 25 years of experience in all aspects of defined contribution consulting and plan administration from a banking, insurance, mutual fund and consulting firm's perspective and has been quoted in numerous business and trade publications. He is a graduate of Queens College, NY.


Michael S. Raub
Vice President and Senior Consultant

Mr. Raub joined the Portland office of Segal Advisors as a Vice President and Senior Consultant in 2008. His current responsibilities include servicing clients and expanding the Segal Advisor client base in the Midwest and West.

Mr. Raub has over 20 years experience in the institutional investment management field. Over the past 10 years, he has focused on Taft-Hartley and public sector plans, but he has had broad experience working in all sectors of the market.

Mr. Raub received his BBA in Finance from the University of Notre Dame College of Business. He sits on the Board of Directors of the Town of Mulino, Oregon.


Gino Reina, CFA

Mr. Reina re-joined Segal Advisors as a Consultant in 2003 and was promoted to Vice President in 2006. In 2008 he was designated Director of Research. His primary responsibilities and expertise include providing advice on asset allocation and investment policy, assisting clients in the selection of investment managers and evaluating investment performance.  Mr. Reina provides consulting services to defined benefit, defined contribution and other types of investment programs. He previously worked for Segal Advisors from 1997 to 2000.

During 2001, Mr. Reina worked as a research analyst for a major consulting firm's Investment Management Research Group.  In 2002, Mr. Reina served as the head of research for another large investment consulting firm's Mutual Fund Wrap Platform, where he was responsible for the management of $200 million across 18 mutual fund asset allocation models.

Mr. Reina graduated from Hofstra University with a BBA in banking and finance.


Glenn Ezard
Senior Consultant

Mr. Ezard joined Segal Advisors' Los Angeles office as a Senior Consultant in 2003. He is responsible for client service in the West Region and works in our Los Angeles office. In his investment consulting role, Mr. Ezard assists clients with asset allocation, investment policy, and portfolio construction across all asset classes and investment strategies.

Mr. Ezard has more than 20 years experience in the financial industry. He has had direct portfolio management experience in both fixed income and equity securities, and he began his career as a securities analyst with J.P. Morgan. Mr. Ezard is a frequent speaker at financial industry conferences and seminars.

Mr. Ezard graduated magna cum laude and with honors, earning a bachelor's degree in Political Science from Temple University. He also holds a master's degree in Public Administration with a concentration in Public Finance from New York University's Wagner School of Public Service.


Amy Heyel
Senior Consultant, New York

Ms. Heyel joined Segal Advisors in 1995 and was named a Senior Consultant in 2007. She works with clients across all of Segal Advisors' markets - public sector, corporate and multiemployer.

Her responsibilities include overseeing client relationships, analyzing performance evaluation reports, assisting in the manager search process, investment strategy and asset allocation studies, and managing all aspects of the investment program process. She is an expert on and has written several articles about asset allocation funds - both lifestyle and lifecycle funds.

Ms. Heyel's prior work experience includes pension fund consulting and marketing for an asset management firm. She received her BS in Business Administration from The College of Charleston.


Jeffrey H. Snyder
Defined Contribution Investment Consultant

Mr. Snyder joined the New York office of Segal Advisors in 2008 as a Defined Contribution Investment Consultant. His responsibilities include conducting vendor searches and tracking regulatory and legislative changes for public sector defined contribution plans.

Mr. Snyder previously worked with SunGard Consulting & Professional Services, where he was a Senior Business Analyst working with national defined contribution providers on systems development, design and implementation.

Prior to his tenure with SunGard, Mr. Snyder was a Senior Retirement Plan Coordinator with T. Rowe Price Retirement Plan Services, Inc., where he served on cross-functional and organization-wide committees in addition to his responsibilities overseeing the relationships of his large and national defined contribution clients.

Mr. Snyder received his BA in Information Systems from Hofstra University and his MBA in Finance from the University of Baltimore.
